what if?

So what if this drought is God's discipline of a Father? God's heart of justice? Now, these next few things i'm going to talk about are me just thinking and praying and talking to Jesus. So take them as you will.

We have been a country, driven by selfishness and greed. We put idols, false gods, believe false doctrine before Jesus, and I could go on and on. We have decided that this whole thing called life, is ours for the taking. Well Jesus gave it to us, so might as well live it up while I can.
That we think we are something special.

WHAT?!

Ok, ok, let me explain how this whole thing started. So when I was visiting my grandparents in Lucas, I have been out of Texas for 6 months, so the latest on our weather has not really hit my radar. My grandfather was telling me that currently we are in a drought. So the more I paid attention, the more I saw that it was actually kind of serious. Our governor had issued a day of prayer and fasting for the state of Texas for the drought, kinda cool! And then stuff all over facebook began to pop up, how churches and people and groups were all getting together to pray through this drought.

Taking a look back through some of the old testament, we have fallen into the same things they did, and that obviously did not always turn out too well for them. That Jesus has given us these answers and this book of how He lived His life, yet we choose to run away and be disobedient because we think we know what is better. That we now have chosen to live in a way that slaps Jesus in the face, and says, Your love, Jesus, that is as fierce as the grave, well... I think I have had a little life experience and can roll solo on this one. You think we are the first people to do that, to struggle with that? NOPE.

Take the book of Haggai.
This book, these people show all kinds of spiritual apathy. They are running around, living life, instead of re-building the house of the Lord. So then the Lord comes in and sees that they are spending all their time re-building their OWN homes instead of His. That they have spent sooo much time, traveling and getting the best bricks and stones for their home, miles and miles away, yet somehow the time has not yet come for His house to be rebuilt? Sound familiar?

Haggai 1
“Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘This people says, “The time has not come, even the time for the house of the LORD to be rebuilt.”’” Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet, saying, “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses while this house lies desolate?” Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts, “Consider your ways! You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.”
Thus says the LORD of hosts, “Consider your ways! Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified,” says the LORD. 9 You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?” declares the LORD of hosts, “Because of My house which lies desolate, while each of you runs to his own house. Therefore, because of you the sky has withheld its dew and the earth has withheld its produce. I called for a drought on the land, on the mountains, on the grain, on the new wine, on the oil, on what the ground produces, on men, on cattle, and on all the labor of your hands.”

Hmm, sounds awfully familiar? That because these people chose to spend ALL this time and money and effort into re-building their own homes, while His lies desolate, that HE WITHHELD THE RAINS.

God has purpose in all HE does, in all He allows to happen. To remind us that HE is in control, He controls the sky and the birds of the fields, that He is the one who says, you people want to live your life fully engulfed in this world, re-building your homes, while the KINGDOM OF GOD LIES DESOLATE? He is the living water, the water that sustains us, the water that is LASTING.

Cause eventually this water here on earth will dry up again. Let's pray for more of Jesus, not more rain. Praying that HIS glory would fall from the heavens, pray for MORE OF JESUS! We need Jesus sooo much more than we need rain. He is the God of the heavens, He opens them up and lets His glory rain down, and that's what we desperately need more of. We need more of Jesus in this place. He is calling us to HIS side, that we are realizing, we are but NOTHING and He is but everything. So let's fall on our face and praise Jesus for His goodness and glory and pray for an increase of that, and we'll see how He lets the rains come.

p.s. you should read the rest of Haggai (its short, you can do it) and see the goodness and heart of our Jesus to the people.
